Decision Athlete examines the relationship between physiology, cognition and consequential decision-making. It is built on the premise that the state of the person making a decision deserves the same attention as the decision itself.
That premise does not make every association a proven causal relationship, nor does it make physiological data a definitive measure of judgement. The science is developing, individual responses differ, and measurements must be interpreted in context.
What Decision Athlete is — and is not
Decision Athlete is a private clinical performance practice. It measures selected aspects of physiology and cognition, monitors changes over time, and uses those findings to inform individualised behavioural and performance interventions.
It is not a substitute for medical diagnosis, treatment or ongoing care from your usual healthcare professionals. It is not an emergency medical service. Participation does not guarantee improvements in health, cognitive performance, judgement or decision-making.
Where testing identifies a result that warrants further medical investigation, that result should be discussed with an appropriately qualified healthcare professional. Decision Athlete does not replace the clinical assessment required to diagnose or treat a medical condition.
Understanding your results
A measurement is not an explanation in itself.
Blood biomarkers, genetic information, cognitive assessments, wearable data and other physiological measures each provide a partial view of an individual. Their meaning depends on the measurement, the circumstances in which it was taken, the person’s wider clinical context and the limitations of the method used.
A single result should not be treated as a complete account of your health or capabilities. Changes in a measurement do not necessarily establish why the change occurred, and associations between physiology and cognition do not, by themselves, prove that one caused the other.
Genetic information can indicate certain predispositions. It does not determine an individual’s future health, behaviour or performance.
Decision Athlete aims to interpret these measures as part of a broader, longitudinal picture. It does not claim that current science can reduce human judgement to a single biomarker, score or physiological state.
Responsibility for health and decisions
Any interventions discussed through Decision Athlete should be considered in the context of your individual circumstances. You remain responsible for decisions concerning your health and for seeking appropriate medical advice when needed.
Do not start, stop or change prescribed medication, or disregard advice from your treating clinician, on the basis of information provided through this website or an assessment undertaken as part of Decision Athlete.
If you have new, worsening or concerning symptoms, seek advice from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional. If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, contact your local emergency service.
Information on this website
The material published on this website, including articles, research commentary and the book Decision Athlete: The Last Unaudited Asset, is provided for general informational and educational purposes.
It reflects an ongoing investigation into the relationship between the human organism and the decisions it makes. It is not individual medical advice, and reading it does not establish a clinician–patient relationship.
Scientific understanding evolves. The information presented should not be taken as a guarantee that a particular intervention, interpretation or conclusion is established, appropriate for every individual, or likely to produce a specific outcome.
The principle behind the work
Decision Athlete takes the measurement of physiology and cognition seriously. That requires taking the limitations of those measurements seriously too.
The objective is not to claim certainty where none exists. It is to build a better understanding of the individual, make informed interventions, observe what changes, and refine the approach in light of the evidence.
That distinction matters. It is central to the work.
